There’s an eagle nest high in a tree near my house this spring. Today one of the eagle’s swooped in front of my car to try and get to a rabbit smashed on the street. She was ENORMOUS, and so beautiful. I pulled over and found things to move the rabbit to the yard edge so Eagle wouldn’t get smashed too as she ate. I offered tobacco for them both then sat and enjoyed a great view of Eagle waiting in the tree to eat breakfast. She was in no hurry. She had collected a crowd of onlookers and refused to budge until all of us gawkers took off. I sat in my car and thought about the reinforcement of my current path that Eagle’s swooping over my head had given me. I’ve been working on listening to the animals for guidance about my path to and place of prayers in the mornings. It has been a joy and a giggle to do so, if also frustrating at times as I learn to relinquish control and desire of ego to the guidance of Eagle and her friends. I watch the unhappy people around me and, myself unhappy at times too, and I see how much of it is caused by the need to have our own way. When we choose the path of ego instead of listening, we take ourselves out of the circle of life and distance ourselves from our hearts. It’s how we get lost, and it causes great unhappiness in the world. When I realize I have stepped out of the circle, that there is no synchronicity in my movements with others, I try to go back in my mind to see where I misstepped and return in whatever way I can to that point and start again. I don’t need to be perfect; I do need to correct my mistakes. It takes diligence and patience to do this, and often a great deal of humility and willingness to apologize. At one turning point in my life, my wife’s words to me were, “Apologize, apologize, and apologize once more.” I took it to heart and things have been much better since. So today take a moment and look at where you’re off your path. Where did you misstep? To whom do you owe apologies? How can you move, even tangentially, towards walking the path you should be on?

Then go do it. Start today. When you begin to see synchronicity returning to your life, you will know you are back on track. Let me know how you’re doing and how I can help.
